Maybe that should read Sinema Silhouette #8. Hallowe'en is quickly approaching, and the movies playing in the theater room around here this year are all about scary fun. From Mervyn LeRoy, one of those old-studio system directors who seems to have directed just about every type of film during his long career, comes this deep silhouette shot from The Bad Seed (1956). Sure, the bouncy music helps to put us in the right mood for the scene in which our little sociopath destroys the evidence of her bloodthirsty crime in full view of her overwrought mother, but drenching the dastardly deed in darkness brings the whole thing together, don't you think? Devilishly fun.
A very creepy, mysterious silhouette, Thom! This film sounds too scary for me! :)

Too scary, J? Well if a sweet little psycho twisting her blond pig tails while saying, "Yyyesss mother..." with a sly, knowing grin is too scary then ok. :) With that dark profile of adolescent defiance we almost want to laugh, but we know what she's up to. I wonder if they set up a similar silhouette for the scene when this was performed on the stage?
