Jacqueline tagged me for the Alphabet Meme. Here are the rules:
1. Pick one film to represent each letter of the alphabet.*
2. The letter "A" and the word "The" do not count as the beginning of a film's title, unless the film is simply titled A or The, and I don't know of any films with those titles.
3. Thanks to some clarification by The Siren, movies are stuck with the titles their owners gave them at the time of their theatrical release.
4. Films that start with a number are filed under the first letter of their number's word. 12 Monkeys would be filed under "T."
5. Link back to Blog Cabins in your post so that I can eventually type "alphabet meme" into Google and come up #1, then make a post where I declare that I am the King of Google.
6. If you're selected, you have to then select 5 more people.
* I decided to only brainstorm films that were released up to the year I've reached so far on the Film of the Year project--1953. With only that caveat in mind, here goes nothing...
A - Abenteuer des Prinzen Achmed, Die (1926)
B - Bergkatze, Die (1921)
C - Citizen Kane (1941)
D - Duck Soup (1933)
E - Enfants du paradis, Les (1946)
F - Faust: Eine deutsche Volkssage (1926)
G - G.I. Joe (1945)
H - High Noon (1952)
I - It (1927)
J - Jezebel (1938)
K - Kabinett des Doktor Caligari, Das (1920)
L - Ladri di biciclette (1948)
M - M (1931)
N - Napoleon (1927)
O - Odd Man Out (1947)
P - Play House, The (1921)
Q - Quai des brumes, Le (1938)
R - Robin Hood (1922)
S - Seventh Heaven (1927)
T - Treasure of the Sierra Madre, The (1948)
U - Ugetsu (1953)
V - Voyage dans la lune, Le (1902)
W - Wind, The (1928)
X -
Y - Yellow Sky (1948)
Z -
For X and Z I drew blanks.
Consider yourself tagged for the meme my friends:
Brian at Hell on Frisco Bay
Jonathan at Cinema Styles
Gareth at Gareth's Movie Diary
Chris at Category D
Pierre at Frankensteinia
I've not seen any of the foreign films, except, I think "Le Voyage dans la lune." Forgot all about "Jezebel" and "Sierra Madre." Just as you chose films up to the date of your current Film of the Year project, it seems many of the bloggers involved with this meme have set themselves specific criteria beyond the rules of the game.

I was surprised at the way some letters evoked lots of movies in the mind. Take "S" for instance: Seventh Heaven, Sunrise, Sabotage, Sunset Blvd, etc. "W" brought to mind White Heat, The Wind, The Wages of Fear (well, Le Salaire de la peur--which brings us back to "S"), and so on. But then "P"--I couldn't think of anything until I finally remembered that surreal Keaton picture I watched during the blogathon. This was a fun exercise. Thanks for tagging me, Jacqueline.

Thanks for the tag, Thom; you can mosey over and see what you make of my long list. This is a pretty phenomenal list of movies; I'm particularly keen to catch up with Yellow Sky.

If you like slow-burning westerns, Richard Widmark, and William Wellman in the director's chair then you're in for a treat with Yellow Sky, Gareth. Please let us know what you think of it on your blog when you give it a screening. Ok, I'm headin' over to your place to check out the meme there. . .

Thanks for the tag, Thom! I had a fun time with my list.

Thom, thanks for the tag. So far I haven't done this one yet despite a couple of other tags as well and I don't know if I will. Hell, at this point so many have been done I feel like it's too late in the game to do it now anyway but if I do get around to it I'll be sure and let you know.
As for "Z", if I did do it, I would probably go with Zulu, a personal favorite of mine for some time now. "X" I'd have to fiddle with, like doing a title that had "X" in it but didn't start with it, like Doctor X.

Brian - Great! I'll be over there in a minute.
Jonathan - the "X" title might prove to be the biggest challenge overall, but it looks like you've figured a way around that. Please don't feel pressured to play along unless the mood strikes you.

I went nuts and made 2 lists: A regular "first thing that popped into my mind' list, and another one using only Frankenstein movie titles.

Pierre - - superb! I thought you might have too much blogging on your plate already to join in the meme, but I'm glad to say I was wrong. Checking out your list(s). . .
